Strawberry season is here, but unfortunately it won’t be here for long. There are a few reasons why strawberries are amongst the many fruits that should be consumed organically when possible. Since we consume the entire fruit, we must take extra precautions.
Of every two strawberries you enjoy, one probably contains the fungicide captan, a probable carcinogen. It is usually accompanied by fellow fungicide pyraclostrobin, a known skin and eye irritant. Still, strawberries are a great fruit to enjoy fresh. They’re packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, folate and fiber. Recent research suggests strawberries help regulate blood sugar levels as well.
We have been taking advantage of our weekends to pick strawberries at the local farms here in the Northwest. This is the time to stock up on berries for a later day, make jams or blend daily smoothies. What ever you decide, you can’t go wrong.
Live your best,
